What Copy Editing makes
This skill edits copy you already have. It works in seven passes, one at a time: clarity, voice and tone, so what, prove it, specificity, heightened emotion and zero risk. After each pass it checks the earlier ones still hold. That keeps the message and your voice while the writing gets tighter.
It first picks a mode. A full draft gets the seven passes. A request to fix one line gets a point edit: only that line changes, with a short reason. Every edit also removes AI tells. It includes a checklist, plain-English word swaps and a guide for refreshing outdated content.
Best for: Anyone with a draft that is nearly there but wordy, vague or stale.
- Seven sequential edit passes
- Point-edit mode for one-line fixes
- Removes AI tells like "it's not X, it's Y"
- Plain-English alternatives to jargon
- Guide for refreshing outdated content
Made with this skill
A yoga studio's intro-offer paragraph, edited. Edit the intro-offer paragraph on a yoga studio's website. Keep the offer, cut the filler. Any brands, names or numbers inside are invented examples.

How to add Copy Editing to your app
Step by step for each app. We say where to click, so you never need to leave this page.
ChatGPTby OpenAI
- 1 Download the skill (.zip) with the button at the top of this page, then unzip it.
- 2 Open the ChatGPT desktop app and look for Skills in the sidebar, where standalone skills are listed.
- 3 Add the “copy-editing” folder there if your version offers it. If you do not see Skills yet, use this skill in Claude or Codex instead.
- 4 In a chat, type @ and pick the skill, or just ask. Ask for what you want, for example: “Edit this about page. It feels too wordy: [paste].”
To make your own, describe the workflow to @skill-creator in ChatGPT Work and it drafts a skill for you.

Questions about Copy Editing
Will it rewrite everything?
Not unless the draft needs it. It preserves your core message and voice, and a point edit changes only the one line you named.
How is it different from Copywriting?
Copywriting writes new copy. Copy editing improves copy you already wrote.
Can it remove the AI sound?
Yes. Every edit pass removes common AI tells.
Is the Copy Editing skill free?
Yes. It is a Free skill on Best Agent Skills. Sign-in opens soon; when it does, a free account is all you need to download it.
Who made the Copy Editing skill?
Corey Haines. We did not write it. Best Agent Skills curates skills like this one, explains them in plain words and shows how to add them to your app. It is shared under the MIT licence (Copyright (c) 2025 Corey Haines).
