What Obsidian Skills makes
Obsidian Skills is a pack by Steph Ango (kepano) that teaches an agent how to work inside an Obsidian notes vault. It covers the note format, database-like views, visual canvases and the command line tool.
This is the pack that contains our separate Obsidian Markdown page. Choose the pack if you want all six skills, or the single skill if you only write notes with links and callouts.
Best for: Obsidian users who want their AI to write notes the way Obsidian expects.
- obsidian-markdown: write notes with wikilinks, embeds, callouts and properties.
- obsidian-bases: build database-like table and card views of your notes.
- json-canvas: create and edit canvas files with nodes, edges and groups.
- obsidian-cli: read, create and search notes from the command line.
- defuddle: pull clean Markdown out of a web page.
Example prompts
Type something like this once the skill is added. Your app opens the skill when the request matches.
-
Create a note for my reading list with a table of books and links to related notes.
-
Make a canvas that maps the chapters of my novel and how they connect.
-
Build a Base that shows all my project notes by status.
-
Clip this article into a clean note for my vault.

A skill is a folder of plain files, so any app that reads the open skills format can use it. Pick your app for its page.
How to add Obsidian Skills to your app
Step by step for each app. We say where to click, so you never need to leave this page.
ChatGPTby OpenAI
- 1 Download the skill (.zip) with the button at the top of this page, then unzip it.
- 2 Open the ChatGPT desktop app and look for Skills in the sidebar, where standalone skills are listed.
- 3 Add the folders inside there if your version offers it. If you do not see Skills yet, use this skill in Claude or Codex instead.
- 4 In a chat, type @ and pick the skill, or just ask. Ask for what you want, for example: “Create a note for my reading list with a table of books and links to related notes.”
To make your own, describe the workflow to @skill-creator in ChatGPT Work and it drafts a skill for you.
Claude appby Anthropic
- 1 Download the skill (.zip) with the button at the top of this page.
- 2 In the Claude app, open Settings > Features.
- 3 Upload the .zip. If the app wants one skill at a time, unzip it and upload the .zip of a single skill folder instead.
- 4 Ask for what you want, for example: “Create a note for my reading list with a table of books and links to related notes.”
The current Claude Help Center lists Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Organization policy can restrict uploads and sharing. Chat runs code in an isolated environment; uploading a skill does not give it your local project, coding-agent tools or unrestricted network access.
