A newsletter idea, worked out in questions, made with the Brainstorming skill. A newsletter idea, worked out one question at a time.
Made with this skill: A newsletter idea, worked out in questions. Any brands, names or numbers inside are invented examples.

What Brainstorming makes

This skill makes your AI stop and ask before it makes. People often have not finished working out what they want, so the skill starts a short conversation: first a line saying you can skip the questions if you prefer, then one open question to get you talking about a real moment or a concrete picture.

It works for software and for things outside software, such as a talk, a business or a renovation. When the agent understands why you want something, it makes the many small choices you never mention the way you would have. The skill is also one of the 15 members of the Superpowers pack.

Best for: Anyone who gets a result that misses the point because the AI never asked what they meant.

  • Checks what the agent already knows before asking anything.
  • Lets you skip the questions at any time and just start.
  • Opens with one open question about a real moment, not a form.
  • Works for plans outside software too.

Made with this skill

A newsletter idea, worked out one question at a time. "I want to start a small newsletter. Use the brainstorming skill and help me work out what it should be." The person's replies (an allotment keeper who texts the same planting tips to six neighbours) were written in advance as part of the brief. Any brands, names or numbers inside are invented examples.

Example prompts

Type something like this once the skill is added. Your app opens the skill when the request matches.

  • I want to start a small newsletter. Use the brainstorming skill and help me work out what it should be.

  • Brainstorm with me: I need a talk for a team of 30 people about our new process.

  • I want a booking page for my dog grooming business. Ask me what you need to know first.

What’s inside

9 files in the skill folder, with its MIT licence kept inside. 4 are program files your agent can run. Read them before you install.

  • SKILL.md the instructions
  • scripts/ 5 files
  • builder-check-prompt.md
  • LICENSE licence
  • visual-companion.md

Which apps it works in

A skill is a folder of plain files, so any app that reads the open skills format can use it. Pick your app for its page.

How to add Brainstorming to your app

Step by step for each app. We say where to click, so you never need to leave this page.

ChatGPTby OpenAI
  1. 1 Download the skill (.zip) with the button at the top of this page, then unzip it.
  2. 2 Open the ChatGPT desktop app and look for Skills in the sidebar, where standalone skills are listed.
  3. 3 Add the “brainstorming” folder there if your version offers it. If you do not see Skills yet, use this skill in Claude or Codex instead.
  4. 4 In a chat, type @ and pick the skill, or just ask. Ask for what you want, for example: “I want to start a small newsletter. Use the brainstorming skill and help me work out what it should be.”

To make your own, describe the workflow to @skill-creator in ChatGPT Work and it drafts a skill for you.
