Coffee roaster website, made with the Frontend Design skill. Ember & Oak roaster homepage.
Made with this skill: Coffee roaster website. Any brands, names or numbers inside are invented examples.

What Frontend Design makes

This skill is a design brief for your AI. Instead of building the average page it has seen a thousand times, it first works out what your product is, who it is for and what the page must do, then makes deliberate choices about colors, type and layout for that specific subject.

It runs in four steps: plan, check the plan against your brief, build, then critique. It names the common default looks of AI-made pages (such as a cream background with a clay-colored accent) and tells the AI to throw those out unless the brief really calls for them. It also asks for sparing motion, such as one well-timed reveal, and real copy instead of filler.

Best for: Anyone building a website with AI who is tired of pages that all look the same.

  • Starts from your subject matter, not a stock template
  • Rules for type: one or two families, clear scale, short line lengths
  • Warns against common AI tells like single highlighted words and all-caps labels
  • Plan, review, build, critique process
  • Motion kept to one deliberate moment

Made with this skill

Ember & Oak roaster homepage. A homepage for "Ember & Oak", a small-batch specialty coffee roaster in Portland: hero, three featured single-origin coffees with tasting notes, subscription offer, visit-the-roastery section. Any brands, names or numbers inside are invented examples.

Example prompts

Type something like this once the skill is added. Your app opens the skill when the request matches.

  • Design a homepage for a small coffee roaster in Portland with a hero, three featured coffees and a visit section.

  • Redesign my portfolio page so it does not look like every other template.

  • Build a landing page for a legal-aid nonprofit. Make it calm and trustworthy, not startup-looking.

  • Make this signup page feel distinctive but still easy to use on a phone.

What’s inside

3 files in the skill folder, with its Apache-2.0 licence kept inside. Only text instructions and reference files, no program files.

  • SKILL.md the instructions

Which apps it works in

A skill is a folder of plain files, so any app that reads the open skills format can use it. Pick your app for its page.

How to add Frontend Design to your app

Step by step for each app. We say where to click, so you never need to leave this page.

ChatGPTby OpenAI
  1. 1 Download the skill (.zip) with the button at the top of this page, then unzip it.
  2. 2 Open the ChatGPT desktop app and look for Skills in the sidebar, where standalone skills are listed.
  3. 3 Add the “frontend-design” folder there if your version offers it. If you do not see Skills yet, use this skill in Claude or Codex instead.
  4. 4 In a chat, type @ and pick the skill, or just ask. Ask for what you want, for example: “Design a homepage for a small coffee roaster in Portland with a hero, three featured coffees and a visit section.”

To make your own, describe the workflow to @skill-creator in ChatGPT Work and it drafts a skill for you.

Questions about Frontend Design

Is this a design tool with buttons?

No. It is a set of instructions that changes how your AI designs. You still talk to your AI as usual.

Does it use stock images?

The guidance asks for choices specific to your subject. In our test run the page used no images at all and drew its hero as a graphic.

Was this skill tested?

We ran it on a made-up coffee roaster homepage. The AI threw out its first plan as too generic and built a rain-grey and ember palette page with an animated roast-curve hero. The brand, prices and details were all invented.

Is the Frontend Design skill free?

It is a Premium skill on Best Agent Skills. Premium opens soon, with monthly, yearly and lifetime plans on the pricing page.

Who made the Frontend Design skill?

Anthropic. We did not write it. Best Agent Skills curates skills like this one, explains them in plain words and shows how to add them to your app. It is shared under the Apache-2.0 licence.
