Revenue by category in SQL, made with the Write Query skill. Revenue and repeat buyers by category, as a SQL query.
Made with this skill: Revenue by category in SQL. Any brands, names or numbers inside are invented examples.

What Write Query makes

Write Query turns a sentence like "revenue by product for the last 90 days" into a working SQL query. It first works out which columns, filters, groupings, joins and ordering you need, and asks which database you use if it does not know.

It supports PostgreSQL, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks SQL, MySQL, SQL Server, DuckDB and SQLite. You get the full query, a short explanation of each part, performance notes and tips for changing it, such as another time range.

Best for: People who know what data they want but not the SQL to get it.

  • Asks for your SQL dialect and remembers it for the session
  • Readable structure: one named step per logical stage, no SELECT *
  • Filters early and uses partition filters on big tables
  • Looks up table and column names if a warehouse is connected
  • Explains the query and suggests common variations

Made with this skill

Revenue and repeat buyers by category, as a SQL query. In plain words: which book categories made the most money last quarter, not counting refunds, and how many people came back to buy again? Dialect: SQLite. Any brands, names or numbers inside are invented examples.

Example prompts

Type something like this once the skill is added. Your app opens the skill when the request matches.

  • /write-query Monthly active users by country for the last 12 months

  • /write-query Top 20 customers by revenue this year, with their share of total

  • Write a Postgres query that finds orders with no matching payment

  • Rewrite this query for BigQuery and make it cheaper to run

What’s inside

3 files in the skill folder, with its Apache-2.0 licence kept inside. Only text instructions and reference files, no program files.

  • SKILL.md the instructions
  • upstream-notices/ 1 files
  • LICENSE licence

Which apps it works in

A skill is a folder of plain files, so any app that reads the open skills format can use it. Pick your app for its page.
