What Explore Data makes
Explore Data is for the first look at a dataset you have never seen. Give it a table name or a CSV, Excel, Parquet or JSON file. It works out how big the data is, what each column holds and how clean it is, so you know what you can trust before you build on it.
It sorts every column into a type, such as identifier, category, number, date, text or yes/no. Then it runs checks that fit each type and presents a tidy summary, followed by a list of data quality problems and relationships it found.
Best for: Anyone handed an unfamiliar spreadsheet or table who needs to know whether the data is usable.
- Reads a warehouse table or an uploaded CSV, Excel, Parquet or JSON file
- Classifies each column: identifier, dimension, metric, date, text, boolean, nested
- Flags high empty-value rates, suspicious values, duplicates and skewed numbers
- Spots placeholder values like N/A, TBD or test, and mixed formats
- Looks for linked columns, drill-down paths and correlations
Made with this skill
A first look at an online bookshop's orders file. Profile orders.csv before any analysis: shape, column types, nulls, distributions and data quality problems, then suggest what to analyse next. Any brands, names or numbers inside are invented examples.
Example prompts
Type something like this once the skill is added. Your app opens the skill when the request matches.
-
/explore-data orders.csv
-
/explore-data customers
-
I just got this export from our CRM. Tell me what is in it and what looks wrong.
-
Profile this spreadsheet before I build a report on it.

Which apps it works in
A skill is a folder of plain files, so any app that reads the open skills format can use it. Pick your app for its page.
How to add Explore Data to your app
Step by step for each app. We say where to click, so you never need to leave this page.
ChatGPTby OpenAI
- 1 Download the skill (.zip) with the button at the top of this page, then unzip it.
- 2 Open the ChatGPT desktop app and look for Skills in the sidebar, where standalone skills are listed.
- 3 Add the “explore-data” folder there if your version offers it. If you do not see Skills yet, use this skill in Claude or Codex instead.
- 4 In a chat, type @ and pick the skill, or just ask. Ask for what you want, for example: “/explore-data orders.csv”
To make your own, describe the workflow to @skill-creator in ChatGPT Work and it drafts a skill for you.
Claude appby Anthropic
- 1 Download the skill (.zip) with the button at the top of this page.
