What Validate Data makes
Validate Data is a second pair of eyes. You hand it a report, a spreadsheet, some SQL and its results, or even a description of your method. It checks whether the question was the right one, the data was suitable and the conclusions are really supported.
It runs a pre-delivery checklist, looks for common traps such as a join that multiplies rows, survivorship bias, comparing a part-month with a full month, and averages of averages, and spot-checks calculations. You get a report with issues ranked by severity and a verdict.
Best for: Anyone about to present numbers to others who wants a careful check first.
- Verdict in three levels: ready to share, share with caveats, needs revision
- Checklists for data quality, calculations, reasonableness and presentation
- Catalogue of pitfalls: join explosion, survivorship bias, incomplete periods, shifting denominators, timezone mismatches, selection bias
- Recalculates key numbers and checks that totals and percentages add up
- Lists the caveats stakeholders must be told
Example prompts
Type something like this once the skill is added. Your app opens the skill when the request matches.
-
/validate-data Check this quarterly revenue analysis before I send it to the board
-
/validate-data Here is my SQL and the numbers it gave. Does anything look wrong?
-
Review the charts in this deck. Do they match the underlying data?
-
Is it fair to say our churn fell, based on this sheet?

How to add Validate Data to your app
Step by step for each app. We say where to click, so you never need to leave this page.
ChatGPTby OpenAI
- 1 Download the skill (.zip) with the button at the top of this page, then unzip it.
- 2 Open the ChatGPT desktop app and look for Skills in the sidebar, where standalone skills are listed.
- 3 Add the “validate-data” folder there if your version offers it. If you do not see Skills yet, use this skill in Claude or Codex instead.
- 4 In a chat, type @ and pick the skill, or just ask. Ask for what you want, for example: “/validate-data Check this quarterly revenue analysis before I send it to the board”
To make your own, describe the workflow to @skill-creator in ChatGPT Work and it drafts a skill for you.
