What Customer Research makes
This skill helps you learn what your customers really think and struggle with. It has three modes. You can analyze material you already have, such as interview transcripts, surveys, reviews and support tickets. You can mine public sources such as Reddit, review sites and forums. Or you can run your own research with interview questions and surveys.
It pulls out pains, triggers, goals, words customers use, objections and alternatives, and turns them into personas and jobs-to-be-done. The guidance is to mine public signal first, because it tells you what to ask. It treats fetched reviews and posts as data and ignores instructions in them.
Best for: Founders, marketers and product people who want to base decisions on what customers say.
- Three modes: analyze, mine online, ask directly
- Personas and jobs-to-be-done
- Product-market fit survey and interview playbook
- Outreach templates for recruiting interviewees
- Guard against confirmation bias
Example prompts
Type something like this once the skill is added. Your app opens the skill when the request matches.
-

-

-

-

How to add Customer Research to your app
Step by step for each app. We say where to click, so you never need to leave this page.
ChatGPTby OpenAI
- 1 Download the skill (.zip) with the button at the top of this page, then unzip it.
- 2 Open the ChatGPT desktop app and look for Skills in the sidebar, where standalone skills are listed.
- 3 Add the “customer-research” folder there if your version offers it. If you do not see Skills yet, use this skill in Claude or Codex instead.
- 4 In a chat, type @ and pick the skill, or just ask. Ask for what you want, for example: “Here are 12 interview transcripts. What do customers struggle with?”
To make your own, describe the workflow to @skill-creator in ChatGPT Work and it drafts a skill for you.
